Solid State Drives are the current masters of PC speed in the storage media world. However, until recently, the cost and maximum storage available kept the SSD from supplanting mechanical drives as standard equipment on most PC systems and even opened up the possibility of a new drive market niche, the hybrid drive or SSHD. One of the final two hurdles for SSDs may be finally in reach with the announced EVO line of Samsung 840 SSDs.
The Samsung 840 EVO line is a reported to be a direct upgrade to the previous Samsung 840 line in maximum available storage, read, and write speeds. The 840 EVO will come in the 7mm thick, 2.5" design and will support SATA 3 communication protocols.
Samsung reports that certain versions of the EVO line will have up to 520MBPs sequential write speed and up to 540MBPs read speed. The EVO line will be available in five capacities including 120GB, 750GB, and 1TB.
The Samsung 840 EVO line of SSD drives is expected to be available for purchase in August 2013 but price points have yet to be set by the company.
