Corsair, the computer peripheral and hardware company based out of California, announced the upcoming release of a new line of budget solid-state drives. The announcement marks Corsair’s first foray into the low-cost solid-state drive market. Corsair is best known for the Neutron and Force series of SSD. The new line will be marketed under the Force series as “LS.”
The Corsair Force Series LS Solid State Drive
The new Corsair Force Series LS SSDs are designed to use 19nm Toshiba MLC NAND flash and are reported to use a SSD controller by Phison. The Phison controller is a departure from previous series of SSDs offered by Corsair that traditionally used controllers manufactured by LSI SandForce.
The LS series of drives are manufactured to use the 7mm thick 2.5” form factor and are available in multiple capacities. Performance standards for the new LS series of SSDs are reported to include 535 MB/s sequential write speeds and sequential read speeds of 555 MB/s. Corsair is expected to offer the new LS series of drives for as low as $0.83/GB.
