Reliable service and full data recovery

My external drive failed unexpectantly. I tried Secure Data Recovery (based on reviews) and was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to recover my data. Scott McMacken assisted me from the beginning to the end of the process. The drop off was local but I wasn''t sure about mailing my drive out of state. Scott explained that this was to provide the best controlled environment for opening the drive in their Class 10 ISO 4 cleanroom. The shipping went smoothly in both directions, with notifications and the return drive was passcode protected. The price was high and Scott managed to negotiate a small discount because I was not in a hurry. The technicians successfully recovered all of my data. I had some difficulty opening the new drive with the passcode (it is handled with a phone app, and the app had recently changed). Scott passed me on to Blake, one of the security technicians and he succeeded in having me access the drive within minutes. I was very satisfied with the quality of service that I received from Scott, Blake and the team at Secure Data Recovery and would recommend them to anyone in need of this service.

Quick and successful!

Ivan was competent, efficient and most helpful. I got the replacement drive with all my recovered data back within a week. I wish the price had been lower, but I needed the data and to reconstruct it would have taken many days, even though I do backup about once a week. I do hope I never have to have a drive recovered...but if I do I will com back to Secure Data.

Hard Drive Failure Types

Modern hard drives are incredible examples of technology, but they contain sensitive parts that can fail physically, electrically, mechanically, or logically. Read/write head failures, bad sectors, PCB problems, and issues with the drive motor and gears are all common issues.

When any of these things happen, the hard drive stops working and needs to be fixed by a professional in a lab setting.

  • Platter Damage
  • PCB Damage
  • Firmware Damage

Read/Write Head Failure

Mechanical issues, such as read/write head failure, frequently result in data loss. The most common example is a head crash. It occurs when the read/write head comes into direct contact with the platter surface due to sudden impacts, wear, or debris.

The contact often causes significant damage to the disk, preventing users from retrieving data. Further use could worsen the hard drive’s condition, leading to permanent data loss. The device needs to be repaired in a cleanroom to recover data from its platters.
