What to Do When Flash Media Fails

Flash media devices can resist impact damage much better than most digital storage devices, but they can take on physical damage when mishandled in extreme cases. Flash media is also susceptible to logical damage such as data corruption and accidental formatting.

SD Card Data Recovery

Our engineers can work directly with flash chips to create a full copy of your damaged device.

Some flash devices can suffer from memory wear, which occurs when users write excessive amounts of data over long periods of time. Eventually, the flash chip loses its ability to store data, and files may appear corrupt or unreadable. This failure scenario is particularly common with older memory cards.

Common data loss scenarios for flash devices include:

  • Broken USB Connection
  • Snapped or Overheated Electronics
  • Memory Wear from Excessive Use
  • Accidental Deletion or Formatting
  • Virus Damage
  • File Corruption
  • Missing or Damaged Files
  • Smoke, Fire or Water Damage

If your flash drive is physically damaged, your computer may have trouble recognizing it. Your computer may also regularly freeze or lock up when a flash drive is attached. Many failure scenarios have similar symptoms, and diagnosing the exact cause of data loss can be difficult. To keep your files safe, disconnect your flash media as soon as you notice signs of data loss. Do not attempt to read or repair your media under any circumstances.

A Leader in Flash Data Recovery Services

Because Secure Data Recovery Services specializes in flash media repair, we invest heavily in next-generation tools to maintain an outstanding success rate for all flash media.

USB Flash Data Recovery

We offer data recovery for all flash devices regardless of size, manufacturer or failure scenario.

The data recovery process starts with a free media evaluation. Our engineers will analyze your flash device to provide you with a detailed diagnostic report. This report allows you to review costs, a list of recoverable files and a turnaround estimate before making a decision. We offer risk-free evaluations for our standard services.

Flash media presents several challenges for data recovery engineers depending on the failure scenario and the architecture of the device's memory chips. At Secure Data Recovery Services, we use a standardized approach to give each case the best possible chances of a full recovery.

Secure Data Recovery Services' engineers work in a Certified Class 10 ISO 4 Cleanroom to treat damaged chips, broken USB connections and other mechanical issues. We make a full copy of your flash media after performing physical repairs and work from this copy through the rest of that data recovery process.

Our engineers can usually return your data within two to five days under our standard flash media recovery service option. We can return your data via secure FTP to minimize your downtime. If you need faster services, we offer secure 24/7/365 services for prioritized treatment in emergency situations.

    Flash drive data saved!!

I was devastated when I lost the capability of using my flash drive. I was in the process of transferring years of data from one device to the other, when I no longer could. I was panicked. Sure, so things I could rebuild, but many files had years of history that I did not want to lose. I began searching for answers on the internet and found “Secure Data”. I called and spoke with Scott Moses. He was very reassuring and helpful. I sent in my flash drive and was contacted immediately by Scott who had provided me a timeframe and cost estimate. (I was surprised by the price merely because I did not know what to expect, but well worth it in the end). Scott stayed in constant communication with me and worked with my schedule while I was on vacation. Scott also put me at ease with the security aspect of my data. I did not want to use just anybody and have my information end up in the wrong hands!!! When I received all my data files and was able to download everything, it was just as I had left it!! What a relief and what a completely satisfied customer I became. Scott made this difficult experience a flawless and pleasant experience. Thanks for your help Scott!!! I highly recommend using “Secure Data”.

Saved my Data...and possibly my marriage

There it was, lying in a warm puddle of flavored coffee on the table aptly named for that drink. My Flashdrive. My career. My wife, in her haste on Sunday morning had spilled her coffee onto the table where my flash drive laid after being used the night before. As a school principal, I save everything on this flashdrive. I usually begin a new flash each school year... but not this year. All of my presentations, manuals, staff evaluations, Procedures, pictures, videos, and almost everything you can imagine a school leader would need was on that drive. And that was the only place it was. I immediately plugged it into my computer. It appeared to load but then gave me a message to reimage the drive. I knew this was bad. I contacted my school district technology folks who said there was nothing they could do to recover the files I lost. I googled data recovery and found a link to Secure Data Recovery. I completed the form and was contacted by Frank Wright. I informed him of the issue and he assured me that if they could not recover my data, no one could. I sent in the flash drive using the label that they sent me and got the quote back rather quickly. I was not able to afford the original price. I reached out and told them to send the flash back to me. Frank found a way to work with my budget and within a week, there was a confirmation email with proof of my recovery. I was thrilled. Two years of work had been successfully recovered thanks to Frank and his team. I could not have been more satisfied with the service I received from SDR. I would recommend their service to anyone. My wife would too.

Secure Data Service - Ryan Wiggins

I had lost all my data from college and professional school when my computer got a virus! Luckily, I found Secure Data Recovery to help me get that data back! Ryan Wiggins kept me updated throughout the process! He negotiated with me and even went in my behalf to talk to the lab tech doing the work in my device! A great company and I highly recommend working with Ryan Wiggins if given the opportunity!

    They did the IMPOSSIBLE!!

Thank you Secure Data for excellent customer service, follow-up and mostly recovery of my data. After a jump drive was accidentally snapped in half I honestly thought it was useless. My mistake was taking it to a 'computer store' local in my area where I was told the wires could be reconnected enough to get the data. The call came from the repair person who said it wasn't possible. I picked up the old drive and it looked worse than when I took it there. But the experts at Secure Data somehow made it happen . When I relieved the recovered data I had no idea there were pictures from my daughter's senior year, graduation and her reception. I thought there were only documents on the drive. So an extra big shout out for recovering memories.
