LTO-3 Tape Data Recovery Services
Secure Data Recovery Services specializes in LTO-3 tape cartridge data recovery. Since the LTO-3 format launched in 2005, we have provided fast, reliable services for our clients through our extensive network of more than 40 offices.
Secure Data Recovery Services' tape engineers can treat virtually any LTO-3 failure scenario effectively.
Released two years after the LTO-2 and five years after the groundbreaking LTO-1 open standard, Linear Tape-Open 3 improved on its predecessors by doubling tape capacity and data transfer speeds. LTO-3 data cartridges have a native capacity of 400GB, and while LTO-3 does not support "write once, read many" (WORM) functionality or other features of later generations, it offered distinct advantages over other super tape cartridges.
As with all magnetic digital devices, LTO-3 tapes can lose data in certain situations. If a tape is stored in an inappropriate environment, it can lose oxide, causing serious data loss and mechanical read issues. Tapes can also lose data due to accidental overwrites or other logical issues.
In our experience, some of the most common causes of LTO-3 data loss include:
- Storage-Related Decay and Oxide Loss
- Physical Damage Caused by Oxide Issues
- Tears, Z-Folds and Other Physical Damage Caused by Drive Issues
- Fire, Smoke and Water Damage
- Permanent Mid-File Errors
- Software Errors
- Accidental Deletion and Overwrites
We always take appropriate precautions to protect your media and to keep your files safe during data recovery, and our proprietary tools set us apart from other providers. In addition to LTO-3 tape data recovery, we offer RAID repair, hard drive data recovery and dozens of other advanced services to help you avoid downtime after a major media disaster.
Our free diagnostics service gives you an easy way to determine costs for a better return on investment. Call our customer service team today to start a new case or for more information.
LTO-3 Error Codes and Free Media Diagnostics
Data loss symptoms on LTO-3 tapes vary greatly depending on tape manufacturer, tape drive model and backup software distribution. On some early IBM LTO-3 drives, for instance, physical tape issues sometimes occurred in conjunction with error code 6, which indicated a tape eject failure. However, this code does not apply to all LTO-3 devices.
Detailed error logs on some tape drives and libraries can often provide information about tape access issues. We do not recommend loading a failed tape into a tape drive to access an error log, as this can cause damage in some circumstances. As soon as you notice failure symptoms, contact our customer service team to set up free media diagnostics.
Our engineers will evaluate physical and logical errors to provide you with a cost of recovery and an estimated turnaround time. You can select from several case options, including our industry-leading 24/7/365 emergency service, which offers an average turnaround of less than 24 hours. Secure Data Recovery Services maintains an overall success rate of 96 percent, and all of our LTO-3 data recovery services feature a no recovery, no charge guarantee.
Advanced Technology for LTO-3 Tape Data Recovery
LTO-3 tape is only 8 micrometers (µm) thick, significantly thinner than LTO-1 or LTO-2 tape. The format uses nearly 200 more tape tracks than its predecessor, and it is especially susceptible to accidental damage when exposed to untreated air. In order to treat tape cartridges effectively, data recovery companies need access to advanced technology.
Secure Data Recovery Services' engineers treat every physically damaged LTO-3 case in a Certified Class 10 ISO 4 Cleanroom, a specialized environment that prevents contamination and media damage through a system of advanced filters. We also use proprietary file utilities, and as an industry leader, we regularly invest in our facilities to give every case the best possible treatment.
Reasons to use our LTO-3 tape data recovery services:
- Advanced Security Credentials Including SSAE 18 Type II Certification
- No Recovery, No Fee Guarantee and Free Diagnostics
- Safe Tape Repairs in a Certified Class 10 ISO 4 Cleanroom
- Flexible Service Options
- Specialized Services for Large Tape Libraries and Archival Media
