3 Data Recovery Disasters in 2015
Every year companies around the country experience fire, earthquake or hurricanes that obliterates company servers, and all company data. One disaster leads to another. Hackers and viruses also cause major data losses, but that’s a different animal, which we’ve also written about.
Let the following big data recovery near-disasters of 2015 serve as a warning; if you don't have a backup plan for your data, your company gets soaked. Computers and water rarely go well together.
As a business owner, you work hard for profit and to put food on the table. So why leave a security hole? Around 50 percent of businesses that experience a data loss will go out of business within the first year
Data Recovery Disaster: AMAG Pharmaceuticals
This one is an almost disaster. A company based out of Boston, AMAG Pharmaceuticals has around 300 employees. The heavily regulated company first experienced data loss when an employee moved an HR folder into Google Drive, but it failed to sync. As a result, the files all disappeared, and there were others deleted that the owner did not even own.
While the employee tried to find the desktop recycle bin for a copy, everything had vanished without a trace. Luckily, because AMAG had backup, they restored their files with just a couple of clicks. However, without a data recovery mac solution, everything from data to compliance and access would have been jeopardized.
Data Recovery Disaster: Alzheimer's Association
Most people have probably heard of the Alzheimer's Association, and how they have worked tirelessly to help eradicate this heartbreaking disease. In total, the charity boasts more than 2,800 employees and volunteers, and they have worked to enhance both the care and support that people with Alzheimer's have.
One day, the Alzheimer's Association faced a problem with one of their departing employees. He deleted his email before heading out the door. Whether he wanted to be helpful or erase personal email, the consequences were devastating.
Among those emails were messages essential to fundraising efforts. Every pledge and every contact is crucial in this business. Luckily, the company had a backup plan that gave them a restore function. It's a situation that could have left 2,800 employees without a job if they had not been prepared.
Bartle Bogle Hegarty Suffers Data Recovery Disaster
Also known as BBH, this London-based marketing agency has worked with the planet's leading brands, and they have a team of more than 1,100 employees. Their data loss story happened because of a misguided user who "wanted to help" with cleaning up.
In the end, he caused the loss of more than 1,000 files and folders, deleted by moving everything to his recycle bin. The difference is that while Bartle Bogle Hegarty had a mac data recovery solution, they did not have a sufficient one. Their recovery was only partially successful, which illustrates the lesson that you need a quality backup solution.
Not all data recovery solutions are created equal. A backup solution is only as good as the restore capabilities. As was the case with BBH, they managed to restore their data, but the folder and file metadata did not get fully restored, which means that the data was disorganized when they got it.
