The World's Most Advanced DDS Tape Data Recovery Services
Secure Data Recovery Services provides reliable data recovery and repair services for all DDS formats. We offer advanced security, free diagnostics and guaranteed
results through a large network of offices, and our team can help your business recover from any media disaster.
As DDS specialists, we treat hundreds of tape cartridges each year and provide consistently reliable results.
The DDS was an answer to the growing market for high-capacity tapes following the widespread use of the related DAT format for computer data storage.
Both DAT and DDS tape initially had a tape width of 3.81 millimeters (often rounded to 4 millimeters in product literature). Newer generations
of the DDS format use 8mm tape and offer native capacities as high as 160 gigabytes.
Like other high-capacity storage tapes, DDS offers fast transfer speeds, a low per-unit cost and reliable operation.
These features make DDS a perfect technology for data backup. Many businesses create regular archives of important systems with DDS, but when the cartridges become unreadable for any reason, the results can be disastrous.
We offer an extensive set of data recovery services for DAT, DDS-1 through DDS-4, DDS-72, DAT-160, DAT-320 and all
other data cartridge formats. By repairing damaged tape mechanisms, we can quickly restore access to essential files while protecting your confidentiality.
Our engineering teams can treat all DDS failure scenarios including:
- Tape Damage Due to Improper Storage Conditions
- Torn, Broken or Flipped Tape Fire and Flood Damage
- File Corruption
- Accidental Overwrites, Oxide Loss and More
Secure Data Recovery Services offers free media evaluations for all DDS media through the most advanced, capable laboratory in the United States.
Each evaluation provides an analysis of the failure, a time frame for DDS tape data recovery and a detailed cost estimate, and you are never under any obligation to approve our quote.

What to Do When DDS Tapes Fail
DDS drives often give read/write errors or corruption errors when accessing damaged tapes. This is not always the case, however;
if a DDS tape has permanent mid-file errors or if it contains corrupt data, it may appear to read normally at first. If a tape has oxide issues, it may jam or make unusual noises.
The LED lights on DDS tape drives can also indicate failures in some instances. For example, the SDT-S9000 DDS/DAT drive presents a full
line blinking LEDs when a major hardware error is completely preventing a read or write operation. However, it is important to note that
a tape drive may have trouble detecting a hardware error under certain circumstances, and because malfunctioning DDS drives can damage
tape cartridges, we do not recommend running any intensive diagnostics on DDS media.
If you cannot access DDS media, you should turn your drive off and immediately contact a qualified data recovery company. Do not attempt
to repair the damaged cartridge, as you might cause additional damage that could reduce your chances of a successful case result. Schedule a professional media evaluation as soon as possible.
