    The One and Only

I hope this information will help others who had this or similar events happen to you.

I had a ransomware attack about a month ago so even though I have been around computers since the 80''s I made a really bad mistake in trying to fix the problem myself and was not able to go back in time on my computer because I purged it thinking that would clear the problem but it was still there. I called support from Costco Concierge Services
because it was a rather new computer and they talked me through the problem. So they gave me a link to go through Microsoft to re-download windows 10 but they said I needed a 16GB thumb-drive for the process. My second mistake, I did not have one handy at the time so genius (me) thought well I will just use my external 5 TB Drive to download the program, not realizing it would not just download into the drive in a folder I created but instead made my 5TB drive a USB drive. So after everything was reinstalled into the computer everything worked like new. BUT my 5TB External Drive went from 5TB to 32GB USB Drive. And that was the only part of the drive showing up on the screen.

With a lot of researching on the web I went through a few Drive Recovery Software programs and the only one was EaseUS that worked. After about three days of slow downloading into a new External Drive everything seemed to be there except all the files had no file information on anything except for the file extensions. Every jpeg including images, thumbnails, software program icons, PDF, etc. all in folders according to the file type.

Then I started noticing that many of the images were 2 to 20mb sizes or more but only 160 x120 pixels in size. Obviously the file information was their but how to retrieve it.
So back on the Internet I went looking for file recovery software, and after trying different ones in demo mode of course the only one that worked was PixRecovery from OfficeRecovery. BTW, when recovering my images it does it within seconds not minutes like other programs I tried.

I am very happy with PixRecovery but of course I blame myself for all this trouble, it is very time consuming but I will get through it. Remember I had 4.5GB of data. And remember to always keep a blank thumb-drive on hand just in case. Sorry for the lengthy review but that’s what happened to me. Good Luck!
