RAID 5 Data Recovery and Repair Services
RAID 5 is efficient, cost-effective and dependable compared to other RAID configuration options, but it cannot provide perfect protection for stored data. Thousands of
businesses experience RAID 5 failures each year. When a system contains irreplaceable email archives, databases and other mission-critical files, data recovery is often the
only option.

An Overview of RAID 5 Storage

RAID 5 is by far the most popular RAID configuration option. It offers serious performance advantages over RAID 3 and 4 thanks to its distributed parity, and with fault
tolerance for a single hard drive failure, RAID 5 is an ideal option for web servers and storage servers.
A RAID 5 has a minimum of three hard drives. A controller card stripes blocks of data across all of the drives in the array. Each block exists on at least two hard drives so
that the RAID can be rebuilt if a single hard drive fails. Parity information on all of the disks ensures that the system can quickly replace a damaged member.
One of the major advantages of a RAID 5 is this distributed parity. This feature allows for faster data access speeds than RAID 4, a similar configuration with a dedicated
parity drive. A RAID 5 can write to all of its hard drives at the same time, whereas a system with a dedicated parity would be limited by the speed of the parity drive.
However, RAID 5 systems need to be rebuilt after losing a hard drive. Many of our clients lose access to their data during this rebuild process when a second hard drive fails
or when the RAID controller stops functioning properly.
The RAID 5 Setup
RAID 5 is characterized by the
block-level striping with distributed parity storage scheme.
This means that the actual data on the array is interleaved with parity data to check and correct for errors, and all of this information is distributed across all of the drives in the array in "stripes".
Common Causes of Data Loss on RAID 5 Systems
While RAID 5 offers fault tolerance, it cannot replace a well-planned backup strategy. Unfortunately, RAID 5 owners occasionally experience data loss.
RAID 5 failure scenarios include:
- Controller Failure
- Failure During RAID 5 Rebuild
- Multiple Hard Drive Failures Past Point of Redundancy
- Electronic Damage
- Accidental File Deletion
- Parity Loss
- Accidental Formatting or Reinitialization
When your RAID fails, turn it off immediately. Use the RAID's power switch. Do not go through a normal shutdown procedure, as this could contribute to overwrites and file
corruption. Keep your RAID 5 turned off until you can speak with a qualified data recovery professional.
Never attempt to rebuild a failed RAID 5, especially if an initial rebuild attempt failed. We regularly receive RAID 5 data recovery cases that have been unintentionally
reinitialized or overwritten, and your chances of a successful recovery are much higher if you do not attempt to repair your system following a failure event. Likewise, you
should not use any data recovery utilities on your array. Most data recovery utilities will not work effectively with RAID architecture and may contribute to data loss.
Experienced RAID Engineers and Advanced Facilities
Secure Data Recovery Services is certified by every major media manufacturer as a safe media services provider. Because we specialize in data recovery, we can safely work
with damaged RAID media without risking media damage or unintentional overwrites.
We start each recovery by evaluating your media to make an appropriate case plan. Our engineers have decades of combined experience with RAID 5 and can quickly identify
sources of physical and logical damage. We will present you with an accurate turnaround estimate and price quote before beginning our data recovery services.
Our experts often need to repair RAID hard drives in order to restore data. Secure Data Recovery Services operates a
Certified Class 10 ISO 4 Cleanroom, and we can safely repair or replace damaged hard drive components in this controlled environment. Our
Cleanroom protects hard drive actuator heads and storage platters from contamination by allowing a strict maximum of 10 particles per cubic foot. We are currently the only
RAID data recovery company in the world with a Class 10 ISO 4 certification, and we maintain this credential through regular Cleanroom tests.
After repairing individual RAID members, we make a bit-by-bit copy of every hard drive in your array. We can then safely reconstruct the array and perform logical data
recovery procedures without endangering your original media.
Our data recovery engineers have experience with Mac OS X Server, Windows Server, FreeBSD, NetBSD, Solaris, UNIX and other common RAID operating systems. We can quickly treat
file corruption, accidental overwrites and other common RAID 5 issues, fully recovering your data in a matter of days. Because we also offer RAID 5 repair, we can restore
your data to your array or provide you with network access to mission-critical files via secure FTP.
Certified Security from a Leader in RAID 5 Data Recovery
At Secure Data Recovery Services, we use state-of-the-art systems to protect our clients' files. RAID 5 systems often store hundreds of gigabytes of data, and many of our
clients need to maintain compliance with federal privacy laws and industry-specific security standards when contracting a data recovery company.
We were the first provider to earn
SSAE 16 Type II Certification, and with
additional credentials that show our compliance with strict laws like HIPAA and FERPA, we proudly provide the best set of security certifications in our industry. Unlike many
other RAID 5 data recovery providers, we also offer full access to our certification reports through our website.
Our security credentials include:
- HIPAA Compliance Certification
- SAS 70 Certification
- SSAE 16 Type II Certification
- FERPA Compliance Certification
- PCI Security Certification
- General Services Administration (GSA) Contractor Certification
- Information Systems Security Association Member
As one of the only GSA-certified data recovery providers in the United States, we offer fast, affordable RAID 5 recovery and repair for our government clients through the GSA
schedules program. For our GSA number or detailed information regarding any of the credentials listed above, contact our customer service team. You can also visit our
certifications page to view audit reports, attestation comments and other documents.
Fast Turnaround Times and No-Risk RAID 5 Diagnostics
You need accurate information about your RAID 5 failure in order to decide whether data recovery is a viable option. Secure Data Recovery Services' engineers can evaluate
your RAID 5 in less than 24 hours to provide you with a full failure analysis, and unlike many of our competitors, we do not charge for our diagnostics.
Each evaluation report contains:
- An Accurate Turnaround Time Estimate
- A Risk-Free Price Quote
- A Detailed Description of Your RAID 5 Failure
At Secure Data Recovery Services, we understand the importance of fast turnaround times. We treat every RAID 5 array as a priority, and our engineers complete most cases in
2-5 business days. If you need faster service, our 24/7/365 emergency option provides an excellent way to minimize downtime. We complete most emergency cases in less than a
